Education and Awareness-GOCA reaches out across Georgia via health fairs, speaking engagements, lunch and learn sesssions, social media, email, print and television, and community events to raise awareness and educate people about the risks and symptoms of ovarian cancer. Bag of Hope-The GOCA Bag of Hope is one of our premiere community outreach programs. It was designed by and is continually reviewed by ovarian cancer patients and healthcare professionals to ensure the items meet the needs of the ovarian cancer patient. The Bag of Hope is given, free of charge, to newly diagnosed Georgia ovarian cancer patients to let them know they are not alone. The Bag of Hope contains items to encourage support, comfort, and HOPE during their journey.Survivors Teaching Students-In collaboration with the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance's innovative educational program, Survivors Teaching Students, GOCA takes ovarian cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and family members into the classrooms of future healthcare professionals -- physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and physician assistants to share their stories and experiences with the objective of increasing the students' understanding of ovarian cancer symptoms and risk factors so that they will be able to diagnose the disease when it is in its earlier, most treatable stages.Survivors Teaching Students brings the faces and voices of ovarian cancer survivors into the classrooms of health professional students to teach them about women's experiences with the disease.
