Program areas at Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology
Education: provided educational opportunities to Oncology physicians and their administrative staff through conferences, special meetings, and general membership meetings. Topics inlude Clinical trials, exceptional performance, medicare, cancer sponsorship, federal and state legislative updates, and commercial payor relations.
Support: improve cancer care in Georgia through education and strengthening Clinical research throughout the state.
Legislation monitoring: monitored state legislation affecting Oncology physicians and advocated for increase in state tobacco tax. Contrary to the position taken last year opposing changes to state medicaid reimbursement percentages for physician administered drugs, an increase to medicaid provider reimbursement rates for Oncology services is now being sought. Lobbied and provided support for the pbm reform effort, and advocated for the provider directory clean up requirements and oversight thereof by the department of insurance, and heavily engaged in supporting biomarker testing legislation which was passed this year.
To educate and share best practices among cancer patient navigators in Georgia.
