Description
Georgia Works provides a cost-effective and comprehensive program to end chronic homelessness for men. Its mission is to comprehensively change the habits of chronically homeless men, help solve their problems, and turn them into productive, self-sufficient citizens through intensive case management. The program's hallmark is full-time, transitional employment in which men are assigned to a "street team" after a trial period. Dressed in Georgia Works! uniforms, they clean and care for streets and sidewalks in Atlanta.

Program areas at Georgia Works

Transitional jobs: the hallmark of Georgia Works! Programmatic offering is fulltime, transitional employment. After a trial period, men are assigned to a "street team". Dressed in Georgia Works! Uniforms, the men clean and care for the streets and sidewalks in and around downtown atlanta. For their efforts on the "street team", the trainees are paid $15.00 per week during the first 30 days in the program. Georgia Works! Collaborates with numerous intown neighborhood associations to provide program trainees with "street team" job opportunities. After 30 days on the "street team", participants are eligible for a contract job opportunity with one of Georgia Works! Corporate partners currently, more than 20 atlanta companies partner with the organization. Job opportunities range from maintenance work to skilled trades, depending upon the enrollee's skill set and interests. Participants continue to receive a stipend of $7.40 per hour, paid to them via Georgia Works! From this stipend, $50 per week is deducted for the individuals savings account and $100 per week is deducted for room and board.
Georgia Works provides a shared cost housing model enabling homeless men to have a residence.
