Program areas at Georgia Youth Justice Coalition for Action
Georgia Youth Justice Coalition for Action expanded its youth organizing campaign to engage high school students in an education justice movement to promote equity and opportunity in public education. As part of that work we continued the elevate the voices of dozens of young Georgians into traditional and digital media to shift the narrative toward transformative solutions that give all children a fair and equitable opportunity to learn. Through our organizing we mobilized hundreds of students to events and school board meetings in support of stronger and more equitable public schools in Georgia.
In 2023 Georgia Youth Justice Coalition for Action expanded our grassroots advocacy program to promote the social welfare of young Georgians around key issues such as public education racial justice healthcare access and community safety. GYJCA advocated for young Georgians at state and local levels of government to influence state legislative priorities. This work aimed at engaging young Georgians in the process of grassroots lobbying expanded the ability of young people to engage with state policy through events testimony support bill tracking and messaging.
Georgia Youth Justice Coalition for Action recruited and trained over 100 young Georgians primarily from underrepresented communities. With a focus on leadership development and civic empowerment Georgia Youth Justice Coalition for Action intentionally engaged Black brown low income and LGBTQ+ youth to help prepare young Georgians to organize their own campuses and high schools. Equipped with key skills such as narrative and base-engagement training young Georgians are equipped to succeed in future roles related to power building and civic engagement.
