Program areas at Girls Place
After school program - our mission is at the forefront of what we do each day with our Girls as we develop a holistic program of support, empowerment, and self-sufficiency. The goals of our after school program are to cultivate positive relationships with peers, adults, and the community, provide the opportunity to develop interests and build skills to pursue passions, and support the needs of working families. We accomplish these goals by providing a healthy and safe after school environment in compliance with dcf guidelines, provide in-classroom homework help, developing daily/weekly lesson plans revolving around a particular weekly/monthly theme or upcoming event or holiday, providing daily opportunities for free play and physical activity outdoors, providing transportation from 13 local schools.
Athletics - Girls Place offers year round athletic leagues including basketball and volleyball to give Girls the opportunity to develop specific skills in a safe and nurturing environment. Volunteer coaches are intentional in developing social and emotional skills as well as sport-specific skills. We recognize that involvement in youth sports reduces risk and enhances protective factors for our Girls and participation leads to individual and team growth over the course of a season.
Summer day camp - Girls Place offers trauma informed, strengths based positive youth development programming during the summer months for Girls ages 5-15 years old. We provide structure and opportunities to develop skills and a sense of belonging through intentional programming to meet our goal of providing a safe and nurturing environment for Girls to learn and grow. We accomplish this goal by providing curriculum to avoid summer learning loss, gain social and emotional skills necessary for lifelong development, increase physical activity, and learn community responsibility through leadership and service.
