Program areas at Giving Hope and Help
Giving Hope and Help Inc launched in honor of the Founder and President, Jessica L. McClellan, Thanksgiving birthday. The Thanksgiving Birthday Give launched Giving Hope and Help and the 1st Annual Feminine Hygiene Product Drive to collect sanitary napkins and tampons. Over 5,000 products were collected to benefit the domestic violence shelter, Hope House, with two locations in Jackson County. To date, Giving Hope and Help supports over 30 domestic violence shelters and places of refuge. In 2015, Giving Hope and Help also launched the first annual feminine product drive in Texas. The Texas drives were held annually through 2019. Throughout each year, Giving Hope and Help collects period products and packaged childrens and womens underwear through partnerships with businesses, organizations, companies, and the community to support the NO MENSTRUATOR WITHOUT PERIOD PRODUCTS MOVEMENT. Giving Hope and Help partnered with over 200 corporations and community nonprofits, churches, schools, and businesses to move the mission forward. This movement benefits domestic violence survivors and the shelters in which they live, natural disaster survivors, the homeless community, schools, women, and girls organizations and those in need of feminine care locally, across the country, and across the globe. Giving Hope and Help has also made a global impact to end period poverty. Since inception, Giving Hope and Help has shipped feminine products to 17 countries and counting. Giving Hope and Help has supported over 350 girls with period products and girls underwear in Limuru, Kenya from 2017 to present day. To date, Giving Hope and Help's impact has benefited over 55,000 women and girls, locally and globally.
LOVE Bags 4 Cancer initiative was launched in February 2015 in honor of Giving Hope and Help's Founder and President, Jessica McClellan's late niece, who fought cancer for 6 years. This initiative uplifts hospitalized cancer patients in honor of Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. The patients receive gift bags that include a gift card, hand sanitizer, note pad, pen, Kleenex, word search book, other novelties, and an inspiration greeting card. Over seven hundred cancer patients have been inspired and uplifted with the LOVE Bags 4 Cancer since February 2015. Giving Hope and Help partnered with Kansas City metro area hospitals in Kansas and Missouri to deliver the LOVE Bags 4 Cancer. In 2023, Giving Hope and Help distributed love bags to 120 recipients. Giviing Hope and Help hosted a breast cancer brunch for those battling or who have survived cancer. In 2023, 20 breast cancer survivors were honored at a brunch and were gifted LOVE Bags 4 Cancer.
The Education is Your Passport program provides educational and financial assistance for PreK through adult college students. The program's annual scholarship initiative, The Education is Your Passport Scholarship Program, benefits underserved high school seniors and non-traditional, college bound students. In 2023, the program awarded 15 college scholarships which included 5 cash scholarships along with a backpack filled with supplies, a laptop, bed in a bag, and other supplies needed for college. 1 FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP was awarded to Metropolitan Community College, Penn Valley. Additionally, 10 other students received a backpack filled with supplies, a laptop, bed in a bag, and other supplies needed for college. In 2023, Giving Hope and Help also hosted the annual back to school event, Operation Backpack, in partnership with the City of Kansas City, MO. The event was a huge success and made an impact in the community. Approximately 3,00 backpacks with school supplies and access to online hot spots were distributed. Other distributions included 220 tablets, 1,500 books, 10,000 period products, 200 gun locks, hand sanitizers, masks, toiletries, and food to over 500 families.
In 2023, Giving Hope & Help launched "A Way of Escape from Domestic Violence" with a life-saving purpose to aide women, clients, and residents of domestic violence shelters in the KC metro area with funding and resources to EQUIP, EMPOWER, and provide "A Way of ESCAPE from Domestic Violence, leading them to live life to their fullest potential free of violence and abuse. This program will provide women with the resources and financial assistance for transportation, rent, and utilities.
