Program areas at Glen Ellyn Historical Society
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING - In order to share history with the public, educational programs are presented at the history center by members and guest speakers, and exhibits are on display at the history center and Stacys Tavern Museum. Special events which educate or promote history are also held at the history center, Stacys Tavern Museum, and on surrounding grounds. Education of children and adults is further supported through guided tours of Stacys Tavern Museum, where many artifacts relevant to Glen Ellyns history are maintained. Artifacts are also on display and stored at the history center. Special programs are given to local schools to educate about the history of Glen Ellyn.
COLLECTIONS & HISTORICAL PRESERVATIONS - Local history is collected, catalogued and preserved for historical and genealogical research and education. Primary emphasis is given to Glen Ellyn history in the collections. Secondary emphasis is given to other local communities, DuPage County and the Chicagoland area, Archives include, in part, a photo collection, early bound volumes of the Glen Ellyn News newspapers, yearbooks from Glenbard, Glenbard West and Glenbard South High Schools, early DuPage County atlases and maps, Glen Ellyn phone books beginning from the 1920s, local history books real estate records, etc. The collections also include artifacts which relate to Glen Ellyns past, or demonstrate how people used to live in Glen Ellyn.
STACY'S CORNER STORE - The gift shop, located in the history center building, offers a range of books and merchandise related to Glen Ellyns history., current events and local high schools, as well as other gift items for sale to members, local residents and visitors
