Program areas at Global Birthing Home Foundation
The Global Birthing Home Foundation (GBHF) operates in Haiti as a non-governmental organization, under the auspices of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. Maison de Naissance ("Home of Birth") is a modern, culturally appropriate maternal center in Torbeck, Haiti, and is sponsored by GBHF, which shares local oversight of the birth center's operations and is responsible for fundraising. Our guiding principles include high-quality maternal and infant healthcare, including prenatal, delivery, postnatal, well baby, and reproductive health care, family planning, HIV/AIDS testing and treatment, and community health outreach; all provided with respect, available 24×7, accessible to all, culturally appropriate, no financial barriers, and with personal relationships to families in our zone of service. We support indigenous management, with local staffing, and programs for professional development. We encourage innovative and efficient use of technology, including electronic medical records, telemedicine through IM and internet, and specially designed assessment tools. We promote community empowerment, moving toward self-sufficiency by 2024, including population surveys, community health education, house calls, collaboration with community and government bodies, partnerships with other mission related agencies, and economic development programs to improve our families' incomes and food security. In 2022 the GBHF provided 39,541 women's maternal health visits, 5,471 prenatal consultations, 445 healthy deliveries, and 1,507 well baby care visits and 394 healthy deliveries.
