We broker relationships between diverse stakeholders and support companies to implement environmental, social, and governance (esg) activities which leverage sustainable impact for children and youth.continued on schedule oour Global Education program spans four active initiatives: esg and social impact; humanitarian relief; youth skills development; and early years care and education.in 2023, the organization made important progress across all program's key initiatives and delivered major accomplishments to advance the organization's mission.esg and social impact: in partnership with the bhp foundation, gbc-education developed the Business investment for Education impact initiative (biei) to build a stronger, more informed and impactful network of businesses. Through this initiative, gbc-education consolidates best practices, generates and shares evidence-based tools, and improves engagement between the private and Education sectors. In 2023, gbc-education produced "Education + esg" playbook, offering businesses a practical way to integrate Education solutions into their corporate esg strategies. Drawing on the resources laid out in the published in 2022 "your journey to impact" guides as well as the initial "Education and esg" report, the playbook sets a first-of-its-kind measurable standard for such work. Included in this new playbook are case studies from leading companies: google, mastercard, schneider electric, avanti communications, accenture, estee lauder, and others. Gbc-education worked with teams from each of these companies to showcase how investment in Education helps with corporate esg strategies. The playbook was launched in september during the week of the 78th session of the un general assembly at the gbc-education annual event that brought together over 100 Business leaders and Education experts. The event featured speakers from prudential financial, mastercard, schneider electric, and generali all of whom endorsed the new framework for Education's centrality to esg strategies. In tandem with the playbook, gbc-education released two additional resources: a companion guide for the non-corporate community, called "elevate corporate engagement through esg: how the Education sector can build successful Business partnerships for accelerated impact." This comprehensive guide offers strategies for partnering with the private sector by demonstrating how investment in Education is core to their Business strategies. The second resource, "the Business case for the early years" report, makes an urgent case for Global Business community to broaden its focus to the youngest children to help transform not only their Education, but their health, employability, and all-around contribution to their communities and the wider world. Humanitarian relief: the digital equity for ukraine initiative, a $30 million partnership with hp Inc. and microsoft to deliver more than 74,000 laptops to children, teachers, and schools in need, both inside ukraine and in neighboring countries, launched by the gbc-education with the assistance of the olena zelenska foundation in 2022, culminated with the final, successful delivery of all of the devices in august 2023. 38,856 laptops were given to teachers in 12 regions of ukraine. 35,400 laptops were distributed via international organizations to ukrainian teachers and students to support the online Education in the surrounding host countries, including moldova, poland, romania, hungary, germany, united kingdom. The event was attended by more than 150 guests; it brought together the Business community and international organizations to hear from public and private sector partners supporting Education for children and young people affected by the war in ukraine and highlighted the work of the initiative and its critical impact.youth skills development: in 2023, gbc-education completed its inaugural and launched the second skills friendly cities (sfc)'s big ideas, bright cities challenge designed to help solve an urgent youth skills development problem in the united states, where one in ten young people are not in school or not employed, and millions more are underemployed. The first year's cohort reached estimated 99,000 young people, placed 6,320 young people in internships and apprenticeships, and helped 9,481 land their first job. The 2023 challenge recognized southern California college access network, which provides one-on-one mentoring and career counseling services to public housing residents, as the winner to receive the $100,000 grant, and invited them and 14 other finalists to participate in the sfc incubator program. It is estimated that 111,500 more young people will be reached by organizations in the sfc incubator program.
