Program areas at Global Fishing Watch
Global Fishing Watch (gfw) continues to play a strategic role in the Global conservation community, seeking to keep the health of the ocean and the resources it produces on the international agenda. Transparency is in the spotlight, and our technology, tools, and collaborative insights are in demand.our tools and technology remain at the cutting edge, as evidenced by our securing us $60m from the audacious project, along with other significant new funding, to continue revolutionizing ocean management and power our ambitious goal of revealing all human activity at sea.transparency at sea: we made our data and technology more accessible to everyone through our api portal and delivered the marine manager portal globally, enabling any site, manager, or ngo to explore biological, oceanographic, and human activity data.
Research: by the end of 2023, our research team helped publish 7 more papers, bringing the total to 55 and the total number of citations for Global Fishing Watch research to 4571.more information about Global Fishing Watch's ongoing programs can be found at www.globalfishignwatch.org.
Ocean monitoring: we continue to provide information on vessels transmitting ais and streamline the process of getting information on those vessels' movements and events in a simple web portal. Our platform now includes fixed infrastructure like wind and oil detected from sentinel-1 satellite constellation synthetic aperture radar (sar), allowing users to see vessel interactions. We have also included new biodiversity and environmental layers taken from google earth engine, copernicus and noaa to improve the understanding of interaction with Fishing.
