Program areas at Global Friends in Action
Poverty and human rights: in 2023, Global Friends continued to support training on property rights protection strategies. A total of 124 small-scale entrepreneurs participated in training, including 71 women. Gfia also continued to support the coordination of legal seminars, and the development of materials aimed at addressing the impact of poverty reduction measures on human rights in asia. Implementers maintained a focus on issues related to forced relocation, women's property rights, and informal vendors' rights.digital security and privacy rights: in 2023, gfia supported digital security training for approximately 330 civil society representatives in asia. in addition, we continued to raise awareness about the right to privacy through disseminating articles over social media and coordinating stakeholder discussions on emerging issues, including in relation to challenges that women face in securing a right to privacy. To complement our right to privacy work, we also initiated the dissemination of an article series on the importance of government transparency.
Youth job skills training: gfia supported 104 students to participate in a combined classroom and apprenticeship job skills training program. A majority of students continue to be female. The curriculum includes food preparation, computer basics, communications, environmental health, and entrepreneurial skills. A majority of students continue to find employment, including in hotels, lodges, restaurants, or in their own businesses, shortly after completing the program. in 2023, gfia supported two zambian researchers for the first time to help explore new potential program opportunities.
