Program areas at Global Health Media Project Limited
Family planning series: This series of videos covers contraceptive methods to provide health workers with the training they need (for both pre-service and in-service) to better counsel women and partners with regard to family planning and contraceptive options, and to help those who need family planning information better understand their options and make informed choices. There are 63 videos in total: 40 for health workers and 23 for women and partners. In 2022, we finished publishing all of the videos in English, French and Spanish. We also continued to collaborate on an ongoing research research and evaluation project to assess the effectiveness of the videos in training health care workers and educating family planning clients.
Diabetes series: Diabetes has become one of the greatest challenges to health and development globally, particularly in the developing world which is home to three-quarters of the adults living with diabetes. The videos are intended to enable primary care providers to better assist patients with self-care, and enable patients and those at risk to more easily understand the disease and make lifestyle changes. We launched the series in late 2021. In 2022, we filmed in Kenya and Sri Lanka, began the process of editing and post-production of the 30+ videos. We completed and published eight videos by the end of the year.
The Story of Sugar: Inspired by our work on diabetes, we launched this animation in the latter part of 2022 to address the harmful effects of sugar and processed food, help people understand diabetes, and show those at risk the lifestyle changes that promote better health. The Story of Sugar joins our three other "Story of" animations on cholera, Ebola, and coronavirus, which have been watched hundreds of millions of times worldwide. To make the messages more effective in changing behavior, our animations are done in a realistic style that captures human expression so that people emotionally connect with the story and health messages.
