Program areas at Global Inheritance
On march 15th, Global Inheritance, lausd, and socalren presented the energy battle royal at the future green leaders summit at the los angeles convention center. The mission of the organizations' newest program is to give 1,800 middle schoolers from south la the inspiration to explore different career pathways in sustainability and energy efficiency. All students received "power cards" as they entered the conference, which assigned them to a specific energy dance crew. The renewable energy sources and mc powerful communicated the pros and cons of each power source while professional dancers showed the students original dance moves representing each energy source. Ethanol, geothermal, and hydrogen scored victories on the dance floor, but the students quickly learned that every renewable energy source plays a huge role in powering our planet and defeating climate change, and we need to support them all. Before the energy battle royal could begin, lausd students had to power up the sound system and led light towers by generating kinetic energy on the engineered seesaws, human-sized hamster wheels, bikes, and a swingset. After running, jumping, and swinging - the energy wells were full and you could feel the energy in the room. Developed and produced the art of recycling initiative at the coachella music & arts festival (indio, ca), further fest (turin, italy), and stagecoach music festival (indio, ca). Global Inheritance redesigned over 160 recycling bins by 80 different artists. The artwork was showcased at special pre-show free events at the festival and donated to schools after the festival to launch recycling and sustainability programs on campus. Global Inheritance produced the posted studio and posted studio speaker series at the coachella music & arts festival (indio,ca). This interactive art studio encourages event attendees to develop poster concepts around environmental and social issues they feel connected with. These poster concepts are put on display within the studio, and then a handful of posters are selected by a professional artist to redesign. The final redesigns are then placed online for people to download and use in school presentations, wall art and other non-commercial purposes. Supporting the posted studio, Global Inheritance also produced a speaker series. The posted studio speaker stage is an opportunity to highlight leaders in the climate, social, and environmental education space who want to share their knowledge and inspire coachella attendees over two weekends. The speaker stage is flexible - taking the format that best presents the speaker's content: moderated q/a session, ted talk style presentation, show & tell or interactive workshop. This year's speaker stage included a number of high-profile activists and environmentalists, including jaden smith, leah thomas, earthgang, nasa scientists, dr. ben hamlington, james wilks, danni Washington, umi, xiuhtezcati, congressman maxwell frost, phoebe gates, sophia kianni, and more. The organization launched a new initiative to encourage coachella music & arts festival attendee to purchase second hand clothing and promote the idea of thrifting to their friends and family. Global Inheritance partnered with vintage stores across California to participate in the art of thrifting to support local businesses, connect them with festival attendees, and promote vintage festival wear to reduce the environmental burden of buying new clothes. Stores received a vintage coachella art of recycling bin - encouraging patrons to buy vintage and recycle their festival outfits. They also organize a photo shoot with that recycling bin - with unique outfits from your store styled to match the bin artwork. Global Inheritance organized and produced a public transportation/carpooling initiative to encourage people to leave their cars at home and/or drive with four or more people in their car when traveling to stagecoach music festival and coachella music & arts festival (indio,ca). This campaign inspired people from different social groups/musical tastes to try carpooling, the subway or bus and reconsider how they viewed public transportation and shared rides. Over 10,000 people participated in the program. Developed and activated a nationwide gift wrap battle to encourage others to wrap their holiday gifts sustainability. Offered written tips, videos and a "wrap battle" contest where the public could win festival passes to their favorite events by showing off their sustainable wrapping skills. Global Inheritance also hosted pop-up sustainable wrap battles at designercon 2024 in anaheim, ca and on the sony pictures lot. Hosted a special edition of plastic surgery in los angeles, ca to show people how to uninvite plastic to their holiday parties and celebrations. Global Inheritance's plastic surgeons offered tips and best practices to keep the holiday season plastic-free. Global Inheritance produced and operated a recycling store exchange program at festivals that saved over 10 million bottles, cans and cups worldwide in 2022. The program provided incentives to festival attendees for participating in the act of recycling in exchange for prizes and experiences. If not recycled, these bottles, cans, and cups would most likely land in a landfill. The recycling store visited a number of festivals across the united states and italy in 2023 , including kappa futur festival (turin, italy), coachella music and arts festival and stagecoach music festivals (indio, ca). Developed, executed, and toured a California energy education campaign at the coachella music & arts festival in indio, ca and stagecoach music festival. These educational programs taught individuals and groups about kinetic energy, ways to create and convert energy using human power and reengineered playground equipment, how to respect your use of energy, the idea of working together as a team to generate energy., and the different ways to store energy.
