The Global Institute on Innovation Districts strengthens the emerging, place-based model of innovation districts with a mission to be an impactful strategy for cities and regions to enhance economic competitiveness and social equity. In 2022, the institute made a shift from an interim network to a cutting-edge global network consisting of 23 innovation districts. This deep-learning network receives empirical analysis of their R&D, place, and leadership assets while also engaging in collaborative work.

Program areas at The Global Institute on Innovation Districts

In 2023, The Global Institute expanded The scope of its Global network to 45 Innovation Districts worldwide, marking a significant milestone in our mission to advance The practice of this unique place-based model of Innovation. We continued to empower Districts in The network with empirical analysis of their r&d assets and governance models among other strategies to strenghthen their position and impact. Additionally, The Global Institute provided strategic support to select emerging Districts striving to leverage their r&d and advanced industry strengths. By offering tailored guidance and resources, we assisted these Districts in overcoming challenges and capitalizing on opportunities for growth. The collective findings from our network are being aggregated to develop public-facing materials, ensuring that innovative and equitable growth remains at The forefront of city and regional development efforts worldwide.
