Program areas at Global Kids
Global Kids' school based programs offer a comprehensive curriculum combining international affairs education, civic engagement, and academic skill building. Global Kids uses multiple strategies including content-rich workshops, guest speakers, field trips, and education theatre and other creative arts, that build on young peoples' interests and talents and motivate them to learn, develop academic skills, and educate others. The program provides students with an understanding of complex Global issues that are shaping the world. With training and support, students create social action projects focusing on issues of concern.
Global Kids brought its award-winning programming to Washington, dc in 2010. Global kids-dc (gk-dc) thoughtfully partners with schools to offer an array of services and programs that advance school goals and fulfill our mission to develop active Global citizens who are prepared to engage and succeed in our ever-changing world. We work predominantly in high schools and middle schools in underserved communities. Global Kids is the only organization in the district to offer globally focused youth development after-school program for high-needs students that incorporate youth leadership, community engagement, and Global education.
Global Kids' leadership and peer education programs helps students explore issues on Global health, poverty and children's rights through workshops, service projects, field trips, guest speakers and mentoring. The program focuses on creating a college going culture, building college knowledge, visiting college campuses, navigating the college admissions/financial aid process and providing exposure to varied careers. Global Kids youth organize an annual youth conference on major Global issues, design/lead workshops for hundreds of students and teachers.
