Program areas at Global Links
Global Links' international medical aid program: supports health improvement projects in communities lacking resources primarily in latin america and the caribbean. We collaborate with the pan american health organization/world health organization, ministries of health, local health leaders, and others to develop projects to improve public health outcomes in vulnerable populations. Our projects focus on three key areas: maternal/infant health, strengthening public health systems, and disaster recovery. Global Links' medical aid programs provide equipment, furnishings and supplies to public healthcare facilities struggling to provide basic care to their patients. The bulk of materials delivered through this program are medical surplus rescued from u.s. Hospitals and health facilities. Well-planned and coordinated shipments, delivered within a framework of public health initiatives, builds capacity inside the public health system, and supports efforts toward universal access to health.in 2023, Global Links provided $2.9 million worth of medical material aid to support in three countries. Global Links provided medical backpacks to support 423 healthcare professionals. In total, over 1,970,000 lives were impacted globally by Global Links' international programs.global Links' volunteer program offers individuals of all abilities an opportunity to impact Global health and convert surplus into life-saving and life-improving donations. In 2023, volunteers donated thousands of hours, which they spent sorting and packing over 23,000 of boxes of medical supplies and equipment for use in underserved communities while learning about issues surrounding Global health and environmental sustainability.
Our domestic programs include: 1. Domestic medical aid that supports safety net organizations, serving vulnerable populations in western Pennsylvania and beyond to improve the health, dignity, mobility and independence of our neighbors. We work with agencies serving seniors' families, people with disabilities, homeless or other sheltered populations and immigrants/refugees to provide medical supplies and equipment, mobility aids, personal hygiene supplies, nebulizers through our breathe project and other key items. 2. Our community engagement and volunteer program provides hands-on or virtual service opportunities for volunteers of all ages and abilities to sort, assess and prepare materials for donations in our aid programs. 3. Our medical surplus recovery program advocates for and collects the donated materials needed in our aid programs, turning our region's surplus into lifesaving and life proving donations.
