Program areas at Global Ties Akron
The Open World Program brings emerging leaders from mostly Eurasian countries to the United States to give them firsthand exposure to the American system of participatory democracy and accountable governance. The program allows leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and their U.S. counterparts to engage constructively in a manner that complements the U.S. Congress's efforts on timely issues such as accountable governance, the environment, health, and the rule of law. The principles of accountability, transparency, and citizen involvement in government are among the concepts emphasized by the Open World program.
International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) - is the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in various fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings reflect the participants' professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.
Know Your Community Know Your World - Global Threads Boutique - Our social enterprise retail store in downtown Akron features fair trade items and provides economic empowerment and earning opportunities to local refugees, immigrants, and globally affiliated entrepreneurs. Global Threads tells the artisan's stories to keep their heritage alive through the products we sell and share their talent and personal life stories on the tags and store materials.
