Program areas at Good Samaritan Center of Excelsior Springs Association
Primary focus of Good Samaritan Center is to assist families in finding and/or remaining in their homes through rent and utility assistance and deposits to obtain housing, utilities, transportation cost to assist in finding employment, medical assistance, clothing and household items. We primarily serve those who live in northern clay county and all of ray county in Missouri. Caseworkers assist clients in finding solutions to their problems and work to find the strengths within the client. To assist clients, a variety of life skill classes are offered in the areas of health, nutrition, food preparation, parenting, and financial budgeting. Life enrichment camps are held to expose both adults and children to new ideas and the arts. Referrals are offered to help meet other client needs. Additionally, the Center employs a senior advocate who visits seniors in their homes and assists with a variety of tasks including: transportation to doctors, social services and family support division appointments, helping complete legal paperwork, acting as a mentor for the senior with family members, delivering food to home-bound seniors, assisting with budgeting, and other minor tasks. The senior home repair coordinator works with the senior on safety related repairs to their home, assessment of needs, obtaining bids from contractors, and assistance with seeking approval for funding from clay county senior services and for project oversight.
Clothing, household items and furniture are provided to our clients at no cost when their financial resources have been depleted due to providing their own basic household needs. of particular importance is providing suitable work clothing and shoes for those returning to the workforce, so they are better prepared to start a new job. Goods donated to the Center comprise the majority of this type assistance to families. Earnings from sales to the public are used to assist the poor.
