Good Samaritan Foundation has encouraged charitable giving from the community since its establishment in 1969. The Foundation supports the advancement of research, education, and technology in medical science at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center.Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, founded in 1875 by the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, stands in the heart of northwest Portland as one of the Pacific Northwests oldest and most advanced medical centers. Legacy Good Samaritan provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, with special emphasis on its centers of excellence, including:* Legacy Cancer Institute* Devers Eye Institute * Emergency and Critical Care* Family Birth Center* The Community Clinic* Diabetes & Weight Management Services* Legacy Hospice Services* Rehabilitation Institute of OregonThe Foundation also supports biological and medical research through the Legacy Research Institute as well as several Legacy Medical Group primary and specialty care clinics aligned with Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center. In fiscal year 2023, philanthropic contributions supported programs in these major areas:Patient Care $3,531,118Research $2,601,643Education and Training $560,982Community Benefit & Other Hospital Programs $623Some of the projects funded in this year included: Funded general and specialty care diagnosis, procedures, and surgeries for ophthalmology patients without insurance coverage or financial means. Provided emergency medications, durable medical equipment, transitional housing, and other health-related supplies to uninsured, under-insured, and low-income patients. Purchased a wheelchair accessible van and other equipment for the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon. Supported navigation and counselling services for chronic pain and transgender patients. Supported complementary therapies for cancer patients including nutrition education, exercise, art therapy and yoga classes. Supported innovative research to identify ways to improve outcomes and experiences for patients with Alzheimers, epilepsy, stroke, diabetes, glaucoma, and addiction. Awarded scholarships for individuals pursuing undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees. Provided support for Legacy Hospice Services. Supported the operations of Green Gables Guest House, which provides overnight stays for patients receiving cancer treatments or other medical care. Supported medical education for internal medicine residents and specialty fellowship trainees.
