Program areas at Governor's Institutes of Vermont

Giv programs include: residential educational acceleration programs, primarily in summer, where Vermont high school students receive intensive in-depth study opportunities with professional and expert mentors. Summer intensives include arts (visual and performing), astronomy, engineering, environmental science, global issues & youth action, health & medicine, mathematical sciences, entrepreneurship, and technology & design. Occasional winter and fall intensives provide additional topics in science, arts, and leadership. Giv aims to ensure that all motivated Vermont students have equitable access to in-depth educational resources regardless of income, geography, or demographic factors, and specifically recruits large numbers of under-represented students. Target outcomes for participants include increased subject matter knowledge, greater academic motivation and focus, stronger self-confidence and self-esteem, encouragement of prosocial behaviors, and higher post-secondary education and career aspirations.
