Program areas at Grand Encampment Museum

The Grand Encampment Museum has been tasked with the preservation and interpretation of history for Wyoming's upper north platte valley. In addition to preserving thousands of histroical treasures the Museum provides free access to the public to view historical artifacts and to a large library of historical books, magazines, newspapers and photos to conduct research.
The federal highway administration (fhwa) central federal lands highway division donated artifacts found during data recovery efforts associated with the re-construction of forest highway 11. More than 600 artifacts were recovered from the copperton and battle, Wyoming townsites and reflect the changing usages of the land over the historic time period from 1880 to 1920. The artifacts range from bottle glass fragments, ceramic sherds, and wire nails to various fragments and miscellaneous items. The Grand Encampment Museum will study and retain donated artifacts. The fhwa contributed funds to assist in the storing and studying of the artifacts.
The Museum provides historical education programs to youth who come to the Museum as part of a school field trip or part of a summer camp. Youth are engaged in historical activities and are exposed to historical music, artifacts and lore.
