Program areas at Greater Peace Community Development Corporation
The Greater Peace Community Development Center is constructed to provide quality, affordable child care for low to moderate-income families. The center is licensed to house seventy-seven (77) children ages two years to five years of age. The Center houses two (2) First Class PreK classes as part of the Office of School Readiness. Our First Class PreK program was the first in the greater Opelika, Alabama area, succeeding in providing First Class PreK services to students. Additional PreK programs exist in our community due to our availability and model. Our center also provides child care for special needs students. Opelika City Schools provides training and resources to our students and staff. The center also houses one preschool class for students 3-4 years of age. Our center offers extended day services to families needing those extra hours for employment.
The Greater Peace Community Development Corporation provides after-school education programs that focus on science, technology, engineering, and math for students in grades K-8. Certified teachers provide students with homework assistance, test preparation, and enrichment activities to help them build on their current knowledge. Our caring staff coaches and instructs students while encouraging them to reach their full potential through academic and social areas. When needed or requested, suggested coping techniques for better performance are provided to students enrolled in our program and those who attend schools within our school district. The Greater Peace Community Development Corporation provides summer child care for students grades K-6. This six-week program focuses on science, technology, agriculture, reading, math, and history. Certified teachers and experienced staff provide our students with engaging and project-based learning opportunities. Students participate in weekly field trips and activities to provide them with first-hand learning experiences.
