Program areas at Green Technical Education and Employment
Construction on the Green Tech Zero Emissions Mobility Hub continued throughout 2022. The mobility hub is an alternative fuel center with six electric vehicle charging stations, three electric vehicles, four hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, an electric mobile library, an electric bench for portable devices and a virtual job training portal. The Green Tech Micro-Transit program serves as a social enterprise, offering rides to qualifying members of the community with low incomes and challenged with transportation needs. Community members may utilize the vehicles to get to jobs, doctor visits and various social services. Green Tech provided career technical education services to 18 youth and young adults in Sacramento. Students have been introduced to emerging career opportunities in clean energy, construction, agriculture, urban forestry, computer programming, engineering, and environmental protection. Green Tech grew more than 40 pounds of produce including carrots, garlic, tomatoes, muscadine grapes, sorrel lettuce lemon and various herbs (sage, chives, thyme, oregano and basil). We donated the produce to Green Tech students, families and neighbors in the Oak Park community. We taught resume writing, interview techniques, financial literacy and business communication skills to 15 youth and young adults ages 16-21.Green Tech students are taught the core-element of the green economy is to improve overall health conditions through smart infrastructure development strategies, including sustainable living practices and the development of evolving workforce skills.
Green Tech ToursWe traveled to the TomKat Ranch in Pescadero, CA to visit a regenerative agriculture ranch. We also visited the Urban Wood Rescue, a Sacramento Tree Foundation affiliated program that removes diseased trees from the community and converts them into useful commodities like furniture and sells them to wood workers and furniture makers.
Classroom InstructionGreen Tech students participated in a six-month entrepreneur training program culminating in a small business start-up pitch. The students chose an eco-friendly shirt manufacturing product since they are introduced to Career Technical Education (CTE) curriculum within the clean energy economy and career opportunities through interactive discussions, multi-media and special guest presentations. We provided financial literacy, resume writing, job search training and entrepreneurial training. Clean energy vocabulary and terminology are introduced and examined through written and verbal assessment.
