General program - gie core support / china media project / china unofficial archives: this was core support for our mission to strengthen democratic values around the world by supporting and empowering diverse journalistic and independent voices from china and the wider global chinese-language media sphere. Our vision is a free, open, and informed global conversation about the journalism and media environment in china and its implications for the world. We strive toward these goals by strengthening our understanding of media ecosystems in the prc and globally through research, networking and Exchange. Gie's signature project, the china media project (cmp) [chinamediaproject.org] has a world-class reputation and impact as a leading authority on media and politics in the people's republic of china, with strong connections among chinese media professionals and an in-depth knowledge of the history, politics, and practice of media inside china. Under this support, and furthering this mission, we also worked with and supported the non-profit organization china unofficial archives [https://minjian-danganguan.org/], which is dedicated to making accessible the key documents, films, blogs, and publications of a movement of chinese people seeking to reclaim their country's history.
Research - lingua sinica: mapping chinese-language media globally: furthering our mission of empowering diverse journalistic in the global chinese-language media sphere, we launched lingua sinica, a newsletter and research project mapping the presence of chinese-language media in regions around the world, documenting the restrictions they face, amplifying quaity professional voices, and also revealing possible exposure to interference from the prc state.
