Program areas at Greenwood-Leflore Fuller Center for Housing
In conjunction with the Fuller Center group mission, the local chapter adopted a program of helping need families with minor home improvements and energy weatherization that do not exceed a reasonable amount per family. The family then makes a commitment to repay as they can. The local chapter assisted approximately 6 families during the current fiscal year. The program is referred to as the greater blessing box (gbb). Most of the labor is donated and the cost of some of the materisal is paid from organizational funds and designated gifts.
Per agreement with Fuller Center for Housing, the local affiliate makes a contribution when possible to the Fuller Center for Housing international, which assists Fuller Center to administer its programs on a national and international basis. Fuller Center also provides support to the local chapter in the way of construction methods, standards, and house plans and occasional contributions back to the local chapter.
The affiliate continued to collec the payments on low income house notes (at no interest from 27 houses and cottages /buil/place in service in prior years.one house renovations for sale to a family was started in the current fiscal year, with plans to start another. The majority of the labor for building the houses is contributed by the local Fuller Center for Housing organization, any cooperating organizations, and the family which will take ownership of the house. Certain costs are incurred to store and insure materials inventories until used on a house and to provide workmen's compensation coverage on volunteer labor, and construction liability insurance coverage that is not charge to homeowners. There is a shared appreciation agreement that allocates half of the gain on a mortgaged house sold which prorates the gain based on length of time the homeowner has paid on the mortgage to Fuller Center. If the homeowner has paid off the mortgage, the association receives no shared appreciation payment.
