Program areas at Griffis Art Center

International-artist-in-residence program: established in 1989 artists from around the world are chosen in a competitive selection process to participate for a period of 3 months. Housing and studio space is provided. During their residency artists are offered open studios receptions lectures and introductions to the community. All events are free and open to the public.
Two collaborations: 1 "arts new london": an archive project researching the artists writers poets and musicians who were born died or worked in new london. Materials are available on the web site. 2 "whispering falls" : introducing young environmental stewards to the Art work created at the facility of the on-stream salmon hatchery.
Gemfire studio sky break: turn-of-the-century properties renovated to offer rental apartments for artists writers and composers. The rental rates are kept below market rates to assist artists creating an artistic community within new london.
