Newsletters - 400 copies of the voyager newsletter is published three times a year with the intention to inform members, township officials, school officials, other conservancies as to what Conservancy projects are in progress, information on programs to attend, and articles on local flora and fauna. The newsletter is recognized for its informed, clear writing and information about our accomplishments. Electronic notification - a notice is sent to members, township officials, school officials, and local newspapers regarding programs and general Conservancy information updates.
Grosse Ile airport Nature preserve - in 1969, the Grosse Ile naval air station was closed. For the 50 years that it operated, the navy used an area next to the airport as a dump. That area is now known as the Grosse Ile airport Nature preserve. While the epa confirmed the area was not contaminated, the area is littered with machinery, tires, engines and waste from the naval air base. Conservancy volunteers cleaned up the wetlands and forest areas, reestablished the trail system, protected trees from beaver damage, installed educational signs and refurbished an observation platform. The Conservancy worked with the airport commission and in 2023 the ana opened to the public from dawn to dusk every day.
In 2023, this program included 12 outdoor guided programs focused on seasonal changes and highlighting a variety of locations on Grosse Ile. We held a collaborative in-person event with a variety of vendors and speakers for earth day. More than 150 people attended education events provided by ginlc.
