Groundwork Capital Improvement Projects 43%Groundwork has designed, permitted, and prepared for construction the Federal Blvd De-channelization and Trail Project to bring water quality, flood control, urban tree canopy, bike/ped trail, and other benefits to the eastern area watershed communities. Groundwork will be constructing a pocket park to feature climate mitigation strategies such as shade structures, heat-resistant equipment, native plant landscaping, water capture bioswales. pedestrian/bicycle trail from La Mesa to the Bayshore Bikeway!
Climate-safe Neighborhoods 16%Groundwork San Diego has played a central role in fostering strong neighborhoodcollaborations to address the myriad of environmental and climate issues Chollas Creek Watershed communities. The Groundwork Residential Empowerment Training program supports dozens of emerging leaders in strategies and skills to effectively advocate for climate-related investments in their neighborhoods. The Groundwork Community Science Program deploys youth and family in conducting needs assessments that include tree canopy coverage, air quality, heat/flood conditions, and other climate-related quality of life measures. Groundwork then supports families in transmitting these finds to decision makers in order to secure climate mitigation and adaptation funding. Groundwork advocated for and is subcontracting to the City the completion of a community-driven Chollas Creek Regional Park Master Plan.
Youth and Family Climate Education and Outdoor Access Programs 41%The Groundwork Climate Action Park was open throughout the year, providingenvironmental programming to over 1500 Lincoln Cluster 3rd-12th grade students.Supported by the San Diego Foundation, the State Coastal Conservancy, California State Parks, and other funders, Groundwork has served over 200 families in nearby nature, coastal, and EarthLab field trips, supported by climate education and stewardship training.The Lincoln High School Environmental Justice Green Team met year round, completing environmental and climate community service projects that included water quality monitoring and community heat assessments.IBEW, and others shared career possibilities with students.
