Build and repair in fy 2022-2023 we helped 12 families in our community through our repairs program and a brush with kindness. We provide repairs to those that fall within 30% to 80% of the area median income and are in need of assistance. These projects included a large-scale critical repair project o the shivwits reservation for a tribal elder. The home required mold and pest remediation as it had become a hording issue. We were able to completely gut and remodel the home, unfortunately the owner passed away from cancer right at the end of the project. We replaced a water heater for an elderly couple and installed new windows and an air conditioner in a familys home. We are also able to install video doorbells and deadbolt locks for 5 victims of assault or abuse and helped 4 local homeowners with landscaping issues that they were not able to take care of themselves. We selected a family that will be the recipients of our 26th home build and began the work for plans and permitting to build the home.
Other we did not engage in statewide advocacy this year but we were able to advocate on a local level. We worked in coalition with the housing action coalition to advocate for a community land trust and an overhaul of local affordable housing policies in hurricane and la verkin Utah. We also worked with the city of st george on their accessory dwelling unit plans and policies. We are the stewards of a local historical cemetery and were able to build a new fence and begin the process of replacing the unknown grave makers with new crosses.
Restore operation the organization operates two restores, which sell donated building materials and gently used household goods and appliances to the public. Restore revenue supports the organization's ability to plan and execute its affordable housing programs and services. Furthermore, the restores provide a means of reusing and recycling goods that may otherwise contribute to local landfills. Our home production and repairs slowed down in the first part of 2023 as we prepared to move our main restore and affiliate offices to a new location. Extensive repairs we needed at our newly leased location in order to obtain a business license.
