Program areas at Harford Community Action Agency
Food and nutrition: the hcaa food pantry and food advocacy program provides emergency and supplemental food to hungry Harford county families. Clients can visit the food pantry every 30 days to receive enough food to feed their family for 2-3 days. The pantry provides for food insecure households on site and via the mobile pantry unit to expand the reach of services around the county. Hcaa is also a redistribution organization for the Maryland food bank and distributed food to other local pantries, soup kitchens, residential recovery programs, and food shelters. Hcaa also provides snap application assistance.
Homeless prevention services: hcaa provides homelessness prevention assistance for households at risk of homelessness. Homelessness prevention assistance is intended to provide housing stabilization services necessary to prevent an individual or family from moving into an emergency shelter, the streets, or a place not meant for human habitation. Street outreach is a major part of rapid rehousing and homelessness prevention as it provides clients with direct assistance where they currently reside and eliminates barriers for services.
Community case management:a program available to clients who are in need of one-on-one assistance with varying needs. A case manager will take time to create attainable goals with the client's input to ensure their needs are met through referrals, outreach and encouragement. Ccm administrated the emergency rental assistance program and past due water bills assistance program in response to the covid-19 pandemic. Ccm services also include translating materials from english to spanish and there is a bilingual staff member onsite assisting clients with various needs.
Energy assistance - Maryland energy assistance program (meap) & electric universal services program (eusp): hcaa has administered meap in Harford county for more than 25 years. Meap helps low-income families with winter heating bills, while eusp helps keep electricity affordable all year round.
