Program areas at Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Care Foundation
The "Care to share" program was established in collaboration with Oregon health & sciences university to assist low-income and non-insured families that do not have The financial resources available to provide basic Care and medical needs for their family. The program's focus is on The many families needing help when dealing with a child or family member that has been recently diagnosed with an acute or chronic medical condition. The program specifically supports family medical needs that are not otherwise met through federal and state programs. Medical needs supported by The Foundation range from providing transportation, to dental work, to emergency surgical procedures and diabetic supplies. The Foundation does not exercise any control over The professional Care and judgment of The doctors selected for medical Care. For 2023, The program served 150 families.
The Foundation believes there should be an opportunity for young people to improve The quality of their communities. The "Schnitzer cares" program was established to provide an environment where teens learn about The needs of their community through grantmaking and develop a long-term understanding of philanthropy and ethic of volunteerism. By challenging students to engage in community service that is both rewarding and educational, we hope to encourage them to become active leaders in The future. For 2023, The program partnered with 70 groups of students across 37 schools, serving approximately 1,571 students.
