Program areas at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace

Hartford International University for Religion and Peace's (hiu) degree and certificate programs serve approximately 1200 persons from many religious traditions and geographic areas in the greater Hartford regions, as well as nationally and internationally. We offer over 70 courses a year, both credit and non-credit, in Religion, theology and ministerial practice, focusing on the three abrahamic religions (christianity, islam, and judaism). These classes meet weekly for two semesters of 15 weeks, or intensive weekend and weeklong modules in january and june sessions. By offering these courses and academic programs hiu hopes to foster interfaith dialogue and the development of effective religious leaders both here and abroad. Our mission is to "serve god by preparing leaders, students, scholars and religious institutions" for faithful living in a pluralistic world. Hiu also offers educational outreach programs. In the 2022-2023 academic year, hiu offered 20 education outreach programs. Attendance at each event ranged from 10 to 225 people. The objective of the program is to serve core constituencies and reach out to attract new people.
Scholarly journals the muslim world is an academic publication on the study of isalm and christian-muslim relations that comes out four times per year. It is owned and edited by Hartford International University for Religion and Peace (hiu), and published by wiley blackwell. The muslim world has paid subscribers via the wiley-blackwell sales program to library consortia and institutions had access through philanthropic programs unassociated with hiu. The muslim world seeks wide distribution of its journal to libraries around the world , and as large a readership as possible. We engage in no discriminatory practices regarding who has access to the muslim world, nor who is able to submit articles for possible publication. We do offer gratis subscriptions to libraries in developing countries upon their request through philanthropic licensing deals arranged through wiley-blackwell. Our goal in the upcoming year is to expand our market in asia, china, india, eastern europe and south america. Neither the publishers nor hiu, as editor of the muslim world deal directly with students in the publication of this journal, unless they have chosen to submit articles for consideration. All articles, regardless of who submits them, are sent to our refereed peer editorial review board. The board selects articles on the basis of academic merit and subject suitability alone.
Hartford International University for Religion and Peace's Hartford institute for Religion research produces research and resources that support leadership and congregational development as practical, theological activity. Our research uses the perspectives and methods of the social sciences to study religious leadership, and religious organizations and their social/cultural context. Our resources are published both traditionaly and online. Our work is externally funded by, typically, multiyear grants. We currently have 6 active grants institution-wide.
