Grantmaking program: hawai`Hawaii`i People's Fund's flagship annual grantmaking program provides funding to grassroots, community-led organizing efforts addressing social injustice across issue areas. We believe it is critical to address The causes underlying inequality, injustice and poverty. Hawaii peoples Fund works in solidarity with grantees by providing more than monetary support. Hpf provides technical assistance, consultation, referrals offering a variety of training, and unique networking and collaborative opportunities.
Giving project: giving projects are created for individuals and families that want to strengthen their relationships, skills, understanding, leadership, and purpose to support meaningful community building that is genuinely in service to our stories, places, and people. Centering The incredible work our grassroots changemakers are doing in community, The giving project is a cross-class, multiracial hui of 15-20 people that commit to gathering in sessions over The course of 6 months (2 sessions per month). Through these collaborative sessions, The hui co-develops a shared understanding of how injustice, racism, classism, and power plays out in hawai`iHawaii`i. Each hui member commits to moving money to grassroots organizations through community-sourced grants and relationship building. The hpf giving project facilitators provide meaningful tools, experiences, and resources, supporting participants along The way, and have The opportunity to build relationships with grantees, make collective decisions, and provide community-raised resources to inspiring social change and environmental movement builders in hawai`iHawaii`i.
Urgent grantmaking program: Hawai'i peoples Fund is committed to supporting grassroots organizations working to reduce The harm of current systemic failures, and welcomes strategic proposals that aim to support our beloved community during these unprecedented times. The urgent action grants program accepts funding requests up to 5,000, and priority is given to efforts that support nonviolent direct action: The strategic use of immediately effective acts to achieve a political or social goal and challenge an unjust power dynamic or system. Direct action can shut things down, open things up, pressure a target, intervene in a system, re-imagine what's possible, create an alternative, and be led by and empower directly impacted people.
Since 1972, hawai`Hawaii`i People's Fund (hpf) has given us all an opportunity to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, bringing together those who want to confidently invest in social change and those actively working towards it in a united vision of social justice in hawai`iHawaii`i. Hpf is The only organization in The world specifically addressing The needs of grassroots progressive movement builders in hawai`iHawaii`i. Hpf's philosophy of community- based strategic philanthropy offers a unique alternative to traditional charitable giving, ensuring support to initiatives that directly address The root causes of social issues and pose new solutions. Hpf's "community giving = community doing" philosophy ensures community engagement at all levels between donors, grantees, and The larger community. Hpf provides grants, technical assistance, and unique networking opportunities to grassroots organizations focused on creating sustainable social change in hawai`iHawaii`i.
