Healing Warriors Program (hwp) became a 501(c)(3) in october 2012 and has been operating a nonprofit clinic in ft. collins since july 2013. The mission of Healing Warriors Program is to improve the wellness of veterans and their families through non-narcotic care. Healing Warriors Program envisions a suicide-free world where all veterans and their families thrive. Healing Warriors Program values are professionalism, integrity and service, and begin every Program decision by asking the question, "what is best for the veteran?" In addition to the clinical services provided at the fort collins headquarters clinic, Healing Warriors Program operates free monthly walk-in pop up clinics in denver, longmont, and Colorado springs, with additional pop up clinics at va homeless veteran stand downs, and ongoing support to yellow ribbon transition office for pre, during and post deployment service members and their families. Healing Warriors Program utilizes a non-narcotic, 4 pillared approach of integrative care to serve the health and mental wellness needs of veterans, active duty military, and their families. Healing Warriors Program services includes care coordination assistance in order to connect military families with other agencies and nonprofits that provide for adjunct care needs. Currently, Healing Warriors Program maintains a matrix of over 300 agencies and programs that can assist service member families with a variety of wrap-around services. Overuse of narcotic medications has been shown to increase suicide risk, prompting the veterans administration to issue directive 1137 establishing the use of integrative and complementary care approaches in va medical institutions. In september 2022, Healing Warriors Program was one of 3 organizations in the state of Colorado to receive the staff sergeant fox suicide prevention grant enabling the expansion of Healing Warriors Program service delivery. Healing Warriors Program has been a registered va service provider since 2014. As of 12/31/2022, Healing Warriors Program has delivered over 29,000 clinic sessions assisting service member families with a variety of conditions including pain management, trauma, addiction management, cancer and various neurological conditions. Healing Warriors Program has been the recipient of many prestigious awards in recognition of the importance that Healing Warriors plays in veterans and their families lives. Among hwp's greatest honors has been to receive the newman's own 2018 award where Healing Warriors Program was chosen as 1 of 5 veteran nonprofits nationally to be honored at the pentagon and presented with the award by the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, general joseph dunford. In 2021, hwp executive director, ana yelen, won 3 prestigious awards, the 2021 bizwest media-women of distinction awards for non-profits, the 2021 bizwest notable women in non-profits and the aarp 2022 purpose prize fellows award.
