Integrated programs:combination of projects/activities, including trainings and presentations. Early relational health project - Healthconnect One launched a partnership with the center for the study of social policy to pilot and test early relational health training for community-based doulas. Hc One is planning to train doulas with this curriculum across nine sites in seven states. Doula data + compensation project - hc One established a doula data consortium, in partnership with doula organizations from across the nation. This group produced the report "getting doulas paid and is working on a national time use study. Healthconnect One co-developed a data collection tool to be used across Healthconnect One community-based doula and breastfeeding peer counselor partner sites. Healthconnect One provided peer breastfeeding/lactation support and community-based doula training throughout the country. Healthconnect One staff presented at various conferences and gatherings.
Breastfeeding and lactation equity for first food access project:the first food equity project is dedicated to enhancing the initiation and duration of breastfeeding rates within low-income communities. Our approach involves expanding community-based, peer-to-peer support models that not only strengthen the maternal and child health workforce but also foster diversity within these communities.
New jersey doula learning collaborative (njdlc):the new jersey doula learning collaborative strives to elevate the number of trained community doulas. These professionals offer culturally appropriate, social, and emotional support to pregnant women throughout the prenatal period, labor, delivery, and postpartum period. Additionally, the doula learning collaborative provides support for doulas in navigating various health systems and facilitates the processing of medicaid reimbursement claims for their valuable services. In the next 3 years, Healthconnect One will continue to scale doula learning collaboratives in other states with the end goal of having a national community of practice.
All other programs: since 1996, across more than 50 communities, in more than 20 states, hc One's efforts have helped healthier babies be born with fewer c-sections and fewer epidurals and achieve higher breastfeeding rates, and expand support for mothers and families in the crucial first few months of a child's life. Our programs have also generated resources and created jobs in local communities. The first formally recognized community-based doula training program in the united states, hc One has successfully recruited, onboarded, and trained doulas. Hc One works in close partnership with community organizations, hospitals, and clinics, to jointly design programs that provide support for mothers before, during, and after birth and to train community members to run them. We know that community members are the experts on their families and neighborhoods - a core component for our success. With thirty-seven years of experience working on birth equity issues, our programs are consistently linked to better health and well-being for moms, babies, families, and communities.
