Program areas at Help for Haiti
The foundational component of our efforts is to feed hungry children in north Haiti. Chronic malnutrition affects nearly one in every four children in all of Haiti under five years old. Without food, children have no capacity to experience physical or mental growth. Every year, we raise funds to purchase nutrient-dense mannapack meals through feed my starving children, a christian nonprofit organization. These meals are based on the caribbean staple food: rice. They also contain soy, dehydrated vegetables, vitamins and minerals that are essential to the growth of a malnourished child. Help for Haiti paid the cost of trucking in the us from feed my starving childen's distribution center to Florida where the food was put in a container and shipped to cap haitien Haiti. Help for Haiti pays for the shipping and duty in Haiti and subsequently the trucking costs to deliver the food to the schools in Haiti.
Our third and final mission in Haiti is to equip adults for successful employment. Ultimately, our goal is to assist them in obtaining local jobs, or creating their own businesses, to secure their future and stimulate the economy. Our educate initiative explains that the one hen, yon poul program is designed to educate children in sustainable business and social entrepreneurship. It teaches them to take greater personal responsibility for their future. It teaches basic business skills and to share with others from their profits. And it does this while it helps them improve with the core school curriculum. Help for Haiti has successfully managed the training of instructors in the one hen program. The final part of our employment initiative is to work with those in the community who are employable, right now.
Our second mission in north Haiti is to educate children, so that they can prepare for a successful adulthood. We support initiatives in two schools in north Haiti: institution nouvelle etoile de bethlehem in cap hatien and institution mixte martin luther in marmalade. In 2020 we launched our Help for Haiti partners program to ensure that no child in either of our two schools will be turned away from their education due to lack of funds.
Provide covid 19 relief to the families of the children in our two schools. We provided ppe and food stipends to 286 families. The relief was in the form of ppe and money for food. All payments and ppe were distributed directly to the recipients by Help for Haiti.
