Program areas at Helping Rhinos USA
In collaboration with our partner company, Helping Rhinos UK, our online fundraising work engages with local communities, directly connects wildlife conservation and local economies through fundraising; accepting donations on our website, and personal solicitations through local fundraising events. All money raised will further field conservation actions where rhinos are most threatened, and our two most common beneficiaries of this general fundraising effort are Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya (which has the largest single population of black rhinos in East Africa, as well as the remaining Northern White Rhinos in existance) and the Zululand Rhino Orphanage in South Africa (an organization that cares for all the orphaned rhino babies in KwaZulu-Natal, where most of rhino poaching events happen). When we fundraise for them by name, the money is considered restricted funds, but the revenue given in this activity is general, unrestricted fundraising that enables us to make large donations to these organizations.
Helping Rhinos USA provides financial support for the Black Mambas, an all-women anti-poaching unit, who have created a unique model to address wildlife conservation. Hugely successful in both their peaceful protection operations and engaging education programs, the Black Mambas program has been recently expanded and brought into another area of the Balule Game Reserve, which is nearby the world-famous Kruger Park. Additionally, six new Mambas have been incorporated into the program. As such, the world's only all-women unarmed anti-poaching unit has been expanded to cover the Makkushane region as well. In addition, three of the Mambas have been trained on using Belgian Malinois as tracker and canine protection while on patrol.
