We will be the trusted partner in Health, leading the nation in superior care and value.the organization operates Henry Ford Health hospital (hfh), an 877 licensed bed tertiary, and quaternary care hospital, education and research complex in the new center area of detroit, Michigan. Henry Ford Health hospital is a magnet hospital, awarded by the american nurses credentialing center (ancci), and is recognized for clinical excellence and innovation in the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, cancer care and sports medicine, among others. The hospital is a multi-organ transplant center and level 1 trauma center. The hospital posted revenues of approximately $1.3 billion dollars and 32,249 discharges during 2023. Together, we are bringing medical discoveries from bench to bedside.since achieving recognition by the national institutes of Health (nih) as a single, aligned research organization, the partnership's researchers have submitted more than 200 nih grant proposals totaling nearly $500 million in funding requests.our world class research facility in detroit, set to open in 2027, will further fuse basic and translational research, serving as an epicenter for innovation and discovery.grand destination Henry Ford Health, tom gores and the detroit pistons, and Michigan state university announced a sweeping community development project that intends to invest $2.5 billion over the next decade to turn detroit's new center neighborhood into a vibrant, walkable community with state-of-the-art residential, commercial, retail, recreational and Health care components anchored by a new Henry Ford hospital and joint research building. Shirley ryan abilitylab together with the gilbert family foundation and the shirley ryan abilitylab, Henry Ford Health announced a historic partnership to bring a 72-bed state-of-the-art physical medicine and rehabilitation facility to detroit. The facility will be managed by shirley ryan abilitylab and will become part of the detroit campus expansion. The gilbert family foundation also announced the creation of the nick gilbert neurofibromatosis research institute, which will be incorporated into the Henry Ford Health + Michigan state university Health sciences research building. Named for dan and jennifer gilbert's son nick, who passed away from neurofibromatosis in 2023, the institute will collaborate with researchers from around the world to create novel treatments. The gilbert family foundation will contribute nearly $375 million in grant funding to bring these projects to life. The coronavirus impact with an established research structure and access to a diverse patient community, Henry Ford was able to act immediately when the coronavirus pandemic struck. Henry Ford utilized emergency-use authorizations from the fda to treat and track covid-19 patients, creating and monitoring database registries to inform future clinical treatment. As one of the largest medical education teaching centers in the nation, hf Health trains over 1,300 medical students each year. Emergency room services: the organization directly operates six 24-hour emergency facilities, one of which is a level 1 trauma center located in the city of detroit. Emergency services revenues approximated $195 million during 2023, representing 228,902 patient visits.
Outpatient clinics: the organization includes the Henry Ford medical group (hfmg),one of the nation's largest group practices, with more than 1,900 physicians and researchers in more than 40 specialties at locations throughout southeast and central Michigan, encompassing approximately 3 million total outpatient facility visits annually. Henry Ford's medical centers are located in wayne, oakland, macomb and jackson counties. Some medical group physicians also are on staff at other Henry Ford hospitals. Six medical centers provide 24-hour emergency care with several providing ambulatory surgery and primary stroke care. Founded in 1915 after consultations with physicians at johns hopkins hospital and the mayo clinic, the Henry Ford medical group has established itself as one of the premier group practices in the nation. Henry Ford hospital basic science research involves over 85 full-time phd faculty and their support staff and focuses on the following; cardiovascular research, hypertension and kidney, cancer research, bone and joint research, neurosciences research, immunology research as well as others.much of Henry Ford hospital research is translational in nature - from bench to bedside. These studies are housed in the departments of public Health sciences and the center for Health policy and Health services research.henry Ford hospital scientists and physicians participate in and lead many clinical trials which help us understand how to best treat diseases. This is the mechanism by which new and potentially life-saving drugs are tested for safety and therapeutic efficacy. Altogether, there are greater than 1,800 active studies approved by our irb in our medical and surgical departments. By working together, doctor to doctor, nurse to doctor, researcher to physician, Henry Ford can maximize clinical innovations to provide the highest quality of care. The clinical trials office serves to identify and implement strategies for growing clinical research. Clinical trials are coordinated and run by physicians and research nurses in the majority of Henry Ford hospital departments. Internal medicine divisions involved in running significant numbers of clinical trials are allergy, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, infectious diseases, nephrology, pulmonary medicine and sleep medicine. Other departments with significant clinical research include emergency medicine, dermatology, neurology and neurosurgery, and all of our cancer sub-specialties.in 2023 hf Health received $102 million in externally- awarded grants, contracts and sub-contracts, $43 million of which was awarded by nih and other federal agencies. The infrastructure at hf Health allows us to have a research program far larger than other non-university-based Health care systems in the state of Michigan. Hf Health is consistently ranked in the top 5 in Michigan in total nih funding and ranks first in Michigan for nih-research funding for non-university based Health care systems. We are in the top 20% of all institutions granted funding by nih and u.s. public Health service.
