Program areas at Hermann Area Chamber of Commerce
One way in which the Chamber has strived to achieve those purposes has been by conducting or sponsoring the following events: annual wurstfest each march to promote local sausage-makers, meat-packers, and food service establishments; 4th of july celebration that includes kids activities, parade and fireworks display for the local community and visitors. Annual christmas time in Hermann, to encourage local businesses to display seasonal decorations, in part by means of contests for best mini christmas tree decorating contest that provides trees for senior living establishments and patients at local hospital during the christmas holiday. The Hermann cookie walk provides a final family friendly event right before christmas. All of these activities are conducted with volunteer labor and frequently with donated supplies.
The Chamber, in cooperation with the city government and the Hermann regional economic development corporation, recently embarked on a new 5 year strategic plan to identify those amentities and infrastructure needed in the greater Hermann Area. Monthly meetings of the Chamber membership provide a forum for business people and residents to interact, express their concerns, and develop their common interests. The general nature of the Chamber's activities is probably typical of local chambers of Commerce across the country. Much of the responsibility for carrying out the organization's purposes is delegated to its standing committees, which include the following: retail, industrial and strategic plan committees which work with Hermann regional economic development corp and city of Hermann to promote growth of industrial and manufacturing business and increase employment opportunities within the Area; tourism committee, composed of members directly involved in tourism business in the Area, with responsibility of advocating and prompting businesses supporting the tourism industry. Membership committee, which solicits new members and greater participation by existing members, and provides new businesses within the Area with information about Chamber activities and purposes; marketing/social media/website committee which supports communication to both local business and visitors. Ethics committee which assures that all actions and behaviors by Chamber board and staff are of the highest of standards. Finance and budget committee works each year to address matters of an annual budget and financial responsibility to the membership.
