Hertwig Haven provides sanctuary to abandoned and neglected farm animals.In 2023, We hired Marianne Dolcini to lead our equine and canine development team.Marianne has over 50 years of experience training and showing horses and has successfully trained countless dogs to be both service and therapy dogs. She is teaching us how to improve the quality of care and engagement we offer to ourresident equines and canines.One of our dogs, Ramsey, earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen as well as the ACK Urban Canine Good Citizen titles this fall.We performed extensive repairs and upgrades to the facility in 2023, including:A new roof on the old barn where we store our hay,new fencing on the west pastures and multiple gate repairs and/or replacements.The stalls on the east side for our donkey and quarter horse have been upgraded and reinforced.A new French drain system was installed on the west side to keep the stall for our mini horse and pony dry during heavy rains.All animals are up to date on vaccinations and our farrier trims hooves every six weeks. The sheep and alpacas are sheared annually.
