Program areas at Highland Support Project
Partners in service. Service-learning program. 153 volunteers from university and church groups participated in exchange programs with communities in guatemala, ecuador, and Arizona.
By the roots community organizing for sustainable horticulture with the white mountain apache tribe. The program organized 12 families to maintain flood irrigation canals and organized 4 community workshops on seed saving and healthy soil production. Planned a new rainwater harvesting and raised bed installation to assist tribal agencies to attract community participation.
Association of Highland women. Provided Support for the formation of a regional women's organization to provide leadership opportunities and resources to maya women and network these leaders.
Deep ecology education program: hsp provided 46 students with federal workstudy positions. Students organized 12 awareness events and 230 social media engagements on topics of ecology. Contame hsp supported a digital storytelling program to train rural maya youth in computer skills.
