Preservation education: Historic Boulder produced 22 events highlighting preservations value in Boulder. Architecture tours included boulders civic center, mid-century modern buildings, and pearl street. Themed tours highlighted the little rectangle (Historic black owned homes) and legacy businesses. Our history hikes highlighted Historic structures on open space. Lectures included: 50 years of preservation, saving buildings through real estate and the federal labs impact on our history. Our 50th anniversary gala drew a national speaker on the economics of preservation. Our biennial ghost walk featured commercial buildings downtown. Partnering with month of modern we sponsored a tour of hobart wagener homes, and our holiday tour featured adus in Historic neighborhoods.
Rehabilitation Boulder theater: Historic boulders rehabilitation team oversaw the completion of a phase ii planning grant from the state historical fund to create construction-ready drawings for the full rehabilitation of the stucco faade of the Boulder theater. We saved this iconic landmark from potential demolition in the 1970s and hold a conservation easement on the exterior. Partnering with the owner and operator of the theater, with grant assistance from the state, we continued to work on this multi-year project to document the necessary repairs the building needs to keep it a vibrant anchor to boulders downtown Historic district. Historic Boulder acted as fiscal sponsor and provided matching funds to this project.
Preservation advocacy: our preservation advocacy increased as we started the year partnering in producing history colorados saving places conference held for the 1st time in Boulder. Historic Boulder members testified regularly before the landmarks board advocating for saving Historic buildings. Members provided support and technical assistance to groups working to save the 9-mile markers, the valmont school and the reconstruction of the superior museum which was destroyed in the marshall fire. We led an effort to create a new Historic district around boulders civic center, submitting an application for designation including extensive research on the historical significance of central park and the surrounding structures, which was approved by the landmarks board late in the year.
