Program areas at Holly Springs Center
Preschool program: educational services were provided throughout the calendar year to fourteen (14) two-year olds, nineteen (19) three- year olds, and twelve (12) four-year olds. The afterschool program served fifteen (15) elementary-aged children. Each child was provided with breakfast, lunch, and a snack daily. Students were provided with a nurturing and educational curriculum not available in other areas of the community.
Experiential learning field trips: hsc provided innovative experiential learning opportunities for a total of 717 students coming from public, private, and homeschool groups in grades k4 - 7th. Students participated in educational activities, including native american artifacts, candle making, square dancing, glass mosaics, local animals, story telling, dulcimer, jug band, and appalachian art.
Somah (school of mountain arts heritage): the school of mountain arts heritage provided classes to adults and youth in the following areas: painting, pottery, woodworking, fiber arts, glass mosaics, weaving, jewelry making (leather & metal), beekeeping, candle making, soap making, and many other classes related to learning about and appreciating the culture, values, and heritage of the community (appalachia) to a total of 421 participants.
Day camp programs for children ages 5-12: hsc offered school break day camps during in-service days and summer break. In total, there were 108 in-service registrations and 118 summer registrations which provided full- day childcare and enrichment activities to the local community of school- aged children. These programs include woodworking, pottery, music, stained glass, and environment education. Teen art studio: hsc offered a teen art studio camp for childen 10+ for two (2) weeks in the summer of 2023. These students engaged in full-day lessons on pottery, graphic arts, painting, and sketching. Students came from across pickens county to participate, and scholarships were provided on a stated need basis.
