Program areas at Hollywood Police Activities League
Hollywood pal martial arts trains children (grades k - 12) in the art of judo, jiu jitsu, tae kwon do, karate and mixed martial arts under the supervision of professional instructors and an lapd pal officer, participants are provided classes based on age group or belt levels which are offered up to 5 days a week. Additionally, they participate in local and national tournaments throughout the year.
Enrichment programs empower youth with essential life skills, academic support, and personal growth opportunities. The girl scouts program builds leadership and confidence, while tutoring services boost literacy and academic performance. Through mentoring, youth gain positive role models, enhancing self-esteem and decision-making. Taste of the arts introduces youth to the visual and performing arts, fostering creativity, while opioid prevention programs educate youth on healthy choices. Scholarships ease financial barriers to higher education, and life beyond pal provides job readiness and life skills training. Each program fosters development, resilience, and long-term success for Hollywood pal youth.
An lapd pal officer manages the program and volunteers. Team placement and League play encourages healthy relationships and sportsmanship. Players practice with teams and play competitive seasons of soccer and travel tournaments. Soccer develops more than the athletic skills needed to play. It develops strong friendships, teaches leadership, socialization and helps build self-confidence for every child. Volunteer coaches and pal officers mentor and serve as positive role models for youth and their families.
