Program areas at Home Builders Association of Western Michigan
The annual Home and garden expo is the premier opportunity for the community to connect with the members of the hba. The expo showcases the newest building and remodeling trends, sustainable and green practices, Home and garden products, provides attendees with opportunities and ideas to improve their Home - all to help homeowners better maintain what is typically a family's most valuable physical asset. Educational sessions and seminars are offered on topics of interest related to homeownership.
Member development and support is key to helping member organizations grow and improve construction and remodeling practices for homeowners throughout Western Michigan. Educational offerings, including the required Michigan 60-hour license prep course and continuing education important to ensure hba members are ahead of the curve on important safety, design, sustainability, regulatory, legislative and construction issues impacting homeownership. For example, guide families when designing for loved ones to 'age in place', or the latest energy efficient sustainable building practices. Beyond member education, the hba collaborates with other entities for new attainable Home construction in areas where new construction is otherwise economically impossible. The hba provides resources for licensing minority contractors in underserved neighborhoods. The hba also supports opportunities for member-to-member mentoring, scholarships, workforce development and more.
The annual parade of homes gives area residents the opportunity to tour new and remodeled homes demonstrating the latest in new Home construction and remodeling. Featuring cutting edge interior design, energy efficiency, construction practices, technology, landscaping and architecture, the parade instills a passion to keep our communities not only looking great but running efficiently and affordably. We support community service groups by giving them the opportunity to staff a parade Home where the service group can inform parade attendees on how their organization makes Western Michigan a better place to live.
