Description
Home For A Home constructs reinforced concrete block homes to provide adequate housing for low-income people. Through ongoing construction with From Houses to Homes, communities have seen shacks made of cardboard, corn stalks or scrap metal replaced with sturdy homes with concrete floors. In partnership with TECHO, a New Floors Pilot Project has been launched in Huehuetenango, where malnutrition rates are high and the need is urgent.

Program areas at Home For A Home

Ongoing construction of homes with From Houses to Homes: In each community, the families had been living in shacks made out of cardboard, corn stalks or scrap metal and dirt floors. The homes were replaced with reinforced concrete block homes with concrete floors and locking doors and windows. 2-6 Guatemalan skilled laborers benefit from a paid job with each constructed home. We regranted $67,235.00 to From Houses to Homes to build 23 homes in 4 communities, in the departments of Sacatapequez and Chilmaltenango, that directly impacted over 100 people, most of whom are women and children.
Completed Pilot Projects and site visits with Habitat for Humanity, Guatemala: We visited the completed pilot project in partnership with Global Communities (formerly Project Concern International) and Habitat for Humanity, Guatemala in Huehuetenango. Habitat for Humanity, Guatemala constructed the solutions. We also visited the 9 homes constructed by Habitat for Humanity, Guatemala in the department of Solo6. Upon evaluation, we will look for other building partners and housing solutions that are a better fit for the families we are serving. We regranted $4,089 to Habitate for Humanity, Guatemala.
Program oversight including Guatemala site visits by Executive Director, Advisory Board Member and the Community Engagement Associate.
