Program areas at Homes on The Hill Community Development Corp
Housing Counseling - HOTH prepares people to be successful homeowners and renters through its free HUD-approved housing and financial counseling programs. Participants set their own financial goals, track their progress, and develop smart money habits. As result, participants improve their financial capacity, households work to prevent foreclosure, and/or improve their rental situation. The Organization provides homebuyer education to Ohio home buyers who had access to programs of Ohio Housing Finance Agency. HOTH promotes fair housing by providing information about fair housing, fair lending, and/or accessibility rights. HOTH assists homebuyers with accessing downpayment assistance and renters with accessing rental assistance.
Community Programs - HOTHs community programs seek to improve quality of life in the Hilltop. HOTH coordinates the Belvidere Healthy Living Garden. HOTH also supports other neighborhood groups with their activities by serving as a fiscal agent, sponsoring events, and having an information booth at community events.
Housing Development - Working primarily in the Hilltop neighborhood and Prairie Township, HOTH provides low- and moderate-income households the opportunity to purchase or to rent a home that is safe, decent, and affordable. HOTH uses two strategies to provide affordable homeownership: completing comprehensive rehabs of existing houses and building new infill houses on vacant lots. Houses generally include features that improve energy efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility. Construction costs are subsidized with grant funds to make the houses affordable to low- and moderate-income households.
Property Management - HOTH independently owns and manages several units of affordable rental housing. HOTH has also partnered with other entities to build and own over 200 additional rental units in the Hilltop neighborhood; these are managed by HOTHs partners in the projects. All of these rental properties are rented to eligible low- or moderate-income households.
