Program areas at Honore Farm and Mill
Farming - Honoré Farm and Mill partners with local family farmers in Northern California to grow climate-smart landrace heirloom varieties of wheat on certified-organic plots using sustainable farming practices. The grain produced from these plots is cleaned and stone-milled into flour in the Northern Bay Area.
Sale of Products - Honoré Farm and Mill is a non-profit because our mission is to educate and serve everyone in our community. We support our charitable work through the sales of flour and heirloom wheat products such as shortbread cookies. In addition to the grain that we farm see above we buy and sell other varieties of whole grain flour grown by other Northern California farmers to sell flour individually and through a CSA to help support the non-profit educational work.
Education - Honoré Farm and Mill's mission is to create a connection between our locally grown and stone milled whole grain and our food system through education and awareness. Honoré Farm and Mill provides hands-on planting and harvesting education on our partner farm plots. To extend this education outside of the farm we collaborate with California School Food Authority Staff Garden educators and teachers to provide hands-on education using a mobile-mill and a developed curriculum to plant tend harvest thresh winnow and mill wheat. Additionally we are working alongside California school district Food and Nutrition Services staff to develop recipes that can be used in school cafeterias to nourish thousands of students with delicious nutrient-dense whole grains.
