Program areas at Hope Haven of Hancock County
Forensic interviews - structured conversations in a safe environment between children that may have been abused or neglected and a trained professional interviewer in coordination with law enforcement and child protective services personnel. A single interview model is used so that the children do not have to be questioned repeatedly. The goal of the interviews is to aid in ensuring the safety of the individual child as well as other children in the community.
Parenting classes - video based education series designed for parents and families to learn how to survive and thrive in a fast-changing society and to help support families in every stage of the child's development.
Family advocate - family advocates counsel children and families before and after forensic interviews to make sure they understand the process involved with the investigation and legal process. The family advocate also provides support, education and resources to the child and family to help overcome and cope with the trauma of abuse.
Stewards of children - administered by darkness to light, which is a national program whose mission it is to raise awareness of the prevalence and consequences of child sexual abuse by educating adults. The organization offers free training to community members to serve as advocates for children.annual events - Hope Haven provides various annual events to benefit undeserved children in the community, such as a back-to-school drive for school supplies and a teen angel program to ensure teens receive gifts at christmas.
