Program areas at Hope House
Hope House operates two adult learning centers, one at Hope House and the other at Ozanam Inn, a local shelter for men and women. Approximately 120 individuals enrolled in the program during the fiscal year. Six of the students earned their diplomas, but over 40, all of whom entered the program with low TABE scores made considerable progress when comparing pre-test and post-test TABE scores.
Our neighborhood organizing activity focused on rebuilding community in our neighborhood as the COVID pandemic began to fade. It also focused on the needs of area residents to their rental units for repairs that had been left undone during the pandemic: broken stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.
The emergency assistance program provided financial assistance to residence of our service area to prevent evictions and utility turn-offs, to help with funeral expenses, to pay application fees for housing and employment, and other miscellaneous needs. The program prevented over 300 utility cut-offs and over 80 evictions. It helped numerous individuals obtain housing and employment. Through donations from churches, schools, the local food bank, and individuals, we collected over 13000 lbs of food, which we distributed to individuas and families in need.
